Back to bloggin'!

Decided to revive my public journal. Its been 14 months since I returned from South America (exactly the amount of time I spent down there, coincidentally) and I am going back. This time for just 2 weeks.

Every year since 1989 the Macanao Peninsula of Margarita has celebrated the Festival de la Cotorra Margaritena - a cultural festival originally initiated to raise awareness about the endangered and endemic yellow-shouldered parrot. Every year the festival is held in a different town on the peninsula and this year it is in Boca del Rio, the town where I lived when I was down there. To be honest, the festival is just an excuse to spend 10 days on the beach with my friends.

I should return to the Boston area on the 14th of November if I don't somehow get washed away by the tropical waters of Margarita...

See pictures below of the Festival in 2004 to get an idea of what kind of event this is.
